RF alpine troops to use new bulletproof gear at Indra-2010 exercise.

MOSCOW, October 13 (Itar-Tass) - The nearly three hundred alpine
troops from Russia's 34th separate mountain brigade, who will take part in
the forthcoming antiterrorist exercise Indra-2010 in India, will be
wearing advanced combat gear, which provides a high degree of protection
from bullets and fragments, an official of the Russian Defense Ministry's
press service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The kits, made of agamid materials (heat-resistant, ultra-strong
fibres), protect 80 percent of the body from the impact of bullets and
low-velocity shrapnel fragments, and skin, from brief contact with open
flame.
The kit was developed by Perm's Kirasa company and authorized for use
by elite military units. It consists of about 20 items for summer and
winter camouflage, an ammunition vest and a raid rucksack.
Representatives of the Southern Military District's command on
Wednesday made the final checks of the troops' preparedness for the
upcoming exercise.
According to the official, the 280 Russian officers and men will be
airlifted to India by two Ilyushin-76 aircraft of the Russian Air Force.
Under the exercise's plan the participating troops will study and
practice the use of each other's firearms. "In the course of the maneuvers
the Russian servicemen will hold live firing practice with small arms used
by India's Armed Forces, and Indian soldiers will try in action Russia's
Kalashnikov AK-47M assault rifle, grenade launcher RPG-7, Dragunov sniper
rifle, special submachine-guns Val and Kalashnikov PKM machineguns, the
official said.
The joint Russian-Indian exercise Indra-2010 will be held on October
15-24 in India. Head of the combat training department of the Southern
Military District Major-General Vladimir Glinin will command the exercise
from the Russian side.
The maneuvers' opening ceremony will be held at the garrison of the
99th mountain brigade of the Indian Army in Chaubattia on October 15. The
exercise will last till October 24.
In the course of the maneuvers, Russian and Indian military are to
form the joint staff of an allied tactical group, and plan and fulfill
training tasks on rugged mountain terrain at altitudes up to 3,000 meters
above the sea level.
