MOSCOW, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - Alpine troops from Russia's Southern
Military District have finished preparations for participation in the
anti-terrorist exercise Indra-2010 in India, due within days.
"In accordance with agreements with the Indian side the Russian
servicemen will fly to India with their small arms and military gear," an
official at the Russian Defense Ministry's press service told Itar-Tass on
Tuesday.
Under the exercise's plan the participating troops will study and
practice the use of each other's firearms. "In the course of the maneuvers
the Russian servicemen will hold live firing practice with small arms used
by India's Armed Forces, and Indian soldiers will try in action Russia's
Kalashnikov AK-47M assault rifle, grenade launcher RPG-7, Dragunov sniper
rifle and special submachine-guns Val," the official said.
According to the official, the 280 Russian troops from the 34th
separate mountain brigade, located in the village of Zelenchukskaya, the
North Caucasus, will be airlifted to India by two Ilyushin-76 aircraft of
the Russian Air Force.
The opening ceremony will be held at the garrison of the 99th
mountain brigade of the Indian Army in Chaubattia on October 15. The
exercise will last till October 24.
In the course of the maneuvers, Russian and Indian troops are to form
the joint staff of an allied tactical group, and plan and fulfill training
tasks on rugged mountain terrain at altitudes up to 3,000 meters above the
sea level.
