.China denounces awarding of Nobel Peace Prize to its dissident.
12/10 Tass 175
BEIJING, October 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The awarding of the Nobel Peace
Prize to Liu Xiaobo, a convicted Chinese dissident, was a manifestation of
disrespect for the Chinese legislation, Ma Zhaoxu, spokesman for the
Chinese foreign Ministry, said at a briefing here on Tuesday.
"The decision of the Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize to
Liu Xiaobo, who was convicted in accordance with the Chinese laws, was a
sign of disrespect for the legislation, which is currently in effect in
China, as well as a confirmation of the intention of some political forces
to use it as a pretext for exerting pressure on China," Ma Zhaoxu
continued.
"The attempts to change the political system existing in China, and to
hamper the advance of the Chinese nation are a serious mistake," he
stressed in conclusion.
On October 8 the Nobel Committee announced, the Nobel Peace Prize for
2010 has been awarded to Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese activist, who was sentenced
in 2008 to 11 years of imprisonment for "the instigation to undermining
state power."
