Ata Zhur Party wins elections in Kyrgyzstan.

BISHKEK, October 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ata Zhur Party (Native Land)
has won the parliamentary elections held in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday. Akylbek
Sariyev, president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of
Kyrgyzstan, reported here on Tuesday that it got 8.88 per cent of the
votes. It is followed by the Social Democrats -- 8.04 per cent, Ar Namys
(Dignity) - 7.74 per cent, Respublika - 7.24 pr cent and Ata Meken
(Fatherland) - 5.6 per cent. The remaining parties, which ran for
parliament, could not overcome the 5 per cent barrier. The Butun
Kyrgyzstan Party (United Kyrgyzstan) was close to overcoming the barrier:
it got 145,000 votes (4.84 per cent).
Sariyev called attention to the fact that those were only the
preliminary results, which are not legally valid. "When CEC receives the
originals of all the documents, we shall make public the election
results," he specified.
At the beginning of the voting the numerical strength of the electors
was 2.852 million, Sariyev continued. Additional lists were also permitted
by the law. This is why the final figure was changing during the day.
"Such changes are permitted in this situation," Sariyev said.
According to official reports, 55.9 per cent of the registered 2.85
million electors took part in the voting. According to the Kyrgyz
legislation, the parliament is to hold its first meeting within two weeks
after the elections. Since none of the parties got the majority of seats
in the legislative body, consultations are going on between the party
leaders about the formation of coalitions.
Sariyev believes it is quite probable that the parties will forward
complaints, connected with the parliamentary elections.
"I do not rule out a possibility of complaints and applications," he
said. Sariyev promised that CEC would study carefully every complaint.
