ILO regional director praises Yemen efforts to face economic challenges

SANA'A, July 31 (Saba) - The regional director of the ILO Beirut Bureau Nada al-Nashef has praised the Yemeni government efforts aimed at facing economic challenges and reducing the unemployment rates which increased from 11.5% in 1999 to 13% in 2004.

In the opening of a workshop on the National Strategy for Employment in Yemen al-Nashef said many challenges facing the labor sector in Yemen are as a result of economic and development challenges facing the country.

She also appreciated President Ali Abdullah Saleh's initiative to form a committee to solve economic, poverty and unemployment problems in Yemen.

She touched on the consequences of such problems that led to the increase of unemployment in the country particularly the maskedunemployment whose rate reached 25%.
