Georgia to temporarily suspend Russia gas transit to Armenia.

TBILISI, October 11 (Itar-Tass) -- Georgia will suspend temporarily
the Russian gas transit to Armenia over planned preventive works on the
trunk gas pipeline North-South on a section in the Mtskheti Region on
Monday, the Georgian Corporation of Oil and Gas reported.
"The gas transit will be suspended from 8 a.m. Moscow time, on October
11 until 10 a.m. Moscow time, on October 14," the corporation reported.
"Armenia and Russia have already been informed about preventive works
and the temporary suspension of Russian gas transit to Armenia via
Georgia," the corporation said.
The gas transit suspension will not affect the gas supplies for
Georgia, because the country is provided with gas thanks to gas supplies
from Azerbaijan. The preventive works on the gas pipeline will not also
affect Armenia, because the country has a gas storage that can meet the
domestic gas demand for about two months.

.United Russia candidate wins landslide victory as Derbent mayor.

MAKHACHKALA, October 11 (Itar-Tass) -- United Russia candidate Imam
Yaraliyev has won a landslide victory at the mayoral elections in the
Dagestani city of Derbent. He gained 96.63% of votes, a source in the
Derbent territorial election commission told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Self-nominees Elkhan Kazimov and Shamil Murtaibov polled a little bit
more than four percent each.
The turnout in Derbent has made 78.3% that makes about 60,000 voters.
The Dagestani regional branch of the United Russia Party nominated
Imam Yaraliyev, 54, for Derbent mayor.
Former Dagestani Prosecutor Imam Yaraliyev was elected as the chief of
the Suleiman-Stalsky municipal entity in 2007. In October 2009 already as
the first deputy mayor of Derbent Yaraliyev was running the Derbent
mayoral elections, but lost to the then incumbent mayor Felix
Kaziakhmedov. However, the court recognized the 2009 mayoral election
results invalid, because only 23 from 36 polling stations were opened on
the election day.
Imam Yaraliyev has been acting Derbent mayor up to now.

.Ata Zhurt leading at Kyrgyz parliamentary polls, after 44% counted.

BISHKEK, October 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ata Zhurt (Fatherland) Party is
leading in the Sunday parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan. The vote
count continues. Over 44% of ballots have been processed so far, a source
in the Kyrgyz Central Elections Commission (CEC) for Elections and
Referenda told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Ata Zhurt is leading with 9.2%, the Social Democrats are running
second with 8.38%, the Ar-Namys Party is coming third with 7.05%. The
Republic Party has gained 6.93% so far. The Ata Meken (Homeland) Party is
ranked fifth with 5.97%. By the way, experts earlier called this oldest
Kyrgyz party as a favourite of the election race.
"The election results will certainly change as long as election
reports come to the election committees," the CEC source assumed. Several
Kyrgyz parties are counting the votes simultaneously, including Republic
and Ata Zhurt. According to their representatives, the official results,
which the CEC makes public, almost coincide with their results.
About 56% from 2.85 million voters participated in the Kyrgyz
elections on October 10. Some 29 political parties were running for 120
seats in a new parliament. However, just first five leading parties are
having real chances to be elected in the parliament, as well as 2-3 more
parties can overcome a 5% election threshold.
Meanwhile, the leaders of several major parties acknowledged that they
have already had preliminary consultations with each other over the
creation of a parliamentary coalition required to form the government.
Under Kyrgyz legislation for election in the parliament a party is to pass
a 5% election threshold (about 142,000 voters), and get at least 0.5% from
all voters registered in each of seven republican regions and the cities
of Bishkek and Osh.

.Communist Party remains United Russia's major rival.

MOSCOW, October 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The Communist Party remains the
major political opponent and rival of the United Russia Party, secretary
of the United Russia General Council presidium Vyacheslav Volodin said
Monday in comments on the preliminary election results.
"We always consider as our major rival the party that occupied the
second position," he said, noting the Communist Party, as the elections
showed, "is staying at the position of the second party and builds up this
status."
He recalled that according to latest election results only in Tuva the
Communists lost the second position to Just Russia, which is ranked third
almost in all regions.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Democratic Party "is stably holding the
third-fourth position," Volodin underlined.
