Iran : 32 world states participating in Imam Reza (AS) Festival

Tehran, Oct 10, IRNA -- Minister of Culture and the Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini said on Saturday that some 32 countries are taking part at the International Festival on Imam Reza (AS) which opened today nationwide and will work for ten days.
Imam Reza (AS), is the 8th Imam of Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) Infallible Household.
Speaking at the news conference on the Eighth International Festival on Imam Reza (AS), he said that last year the event hosted 20 countries.
Canada, Britain, Germany, Austria, India and Indonesia are among the countries which took part at the ongoing event, he noted.
Cultural packages have earlier been sent to the countries to introduce the Razavi culture to them, Hosseini said.
He said that some 69,559 works have been submitted to the secretariat of the festival, registering 82 percent growth compared to last year's 38,285.
A letter to Imam Reza (AS), weblogging and book reading are among the competitive programs of the festival.
Since some 20 to 25 million pilgrims visit Mshhad each year, the government has allocated some 2,000 billion rials for cultural works in Khorasan Razavi province.
This is while, cultural budget of the other provinces stand at 500 billion rials, he said.
Imam Reza's (AS) shrine is located in Mashhad. Astan-e Qods Razavi Foundation is the custodian of the holy shrine./end
