Sanctions have no effect on Iran’s carpet market: Official

Bojnoord, North Khorasan province, Oct 10, IRNA – Head of Iran’s National Carpet Organization Feysal Mardasi said here on Saturday that US sanctions on Iran’s hand-woven carpets have had no effect on their market abroad.
Speaking in the meeting of north Khorasan hand-woven carpet working group session, Mardasi said that imposing sanctions on Iran’s hand-woven carpet and Iran’s other handicrafts by the US is not something new, but it had been imposed in different styles since the victory of the Islamic revolution.
He added that in the first half of the current year, value of exported hand-woven carpet to abroad reached 500 million dollars, which has increased 49 percent compared to the same period in the last year.
Mardasi continued that in the first six months of the current year, value of total exported carpets in the world reached one billion and 300 million dollars and Iran’s share from the amount was more than one third .
He concluded that this figure proves that sanctions, especially in export section of the Iran’s hand-woven carpet have been ineffective./end
