IPB TO HOLD SYMPOSIUM ON AQUACULTURE BIOTECHNOLOGY

Bogor, West Java, Aug. 1 (ANTARA) - The Bogor Institute of Technology (IPB) will organize a national symposium on aquaculture biotechnology here on August 14, 2008.

IPB spokesperson Henny Windarti said here on Friday the theme of the second symposium on aquaculture biotechnology would be "Biology to Support Production and Quality Improvement pf Aquaculture Products, National Food Resilience, and Export Increase".

The symposium would be participated in by researchers, academicians, policy makers, businessmen and aquaculture observers, she said.

The meeting's topics of discussion would include fish reproduction aspects, fish genetics, fish nutrition, fish health, and aquaculture environment, she said.

Speakers of the symposium will be among others Prof Dr Indroyono Susilo of the marine and fishery ministry, Prof Dr Patrick Sorgeloos of "Ghent University" (Belgium) who will speak on "Live Food Production and Nutritional Manipulation for Fish and Shellfish Larvae", Prof Dr Shunsuke Koshio of Japan's Kagoshima University on "Fish Health and Nutrition", Prof Dr Ikuo Hirono of Tokyo University on "Recent Advances on Fish and Shellfish Molecular Immunology", and Prof Dr Goro Yoshizaki of Tokyo University on "Recent Advances on Gene and Cell Manipulation in Aquaculture".
