Jumblatt welcomes Iran President's visit to Lebanon

Beirut, Oct 9, IRNA – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s upcoming visit to Lebanon will help strengthen the resistance movement, a Lebanese daily quoted an official as saying on Saturday.

In an interview with daily as-Safir, Druze leader Walid Jumblatt welcomed the visit and said it will have positive consequences.

Meanwhile, another Lebanese daily al-Nahar wrote that Prime Minister Saad Hariri will host a luncheon in honor of President Ahmadinejad.

President Ahmadinejad’s trip to Lebanon will be his first to that country since he took office in 2005.

As-Safir had previously quoted reliable sources as saying that the Lebanese solidarity, defending the rights of the Lebanese nation against the Zionist threats and support for the resistance movement of the Lebanese people are among priorities of the Iranian government.

Iran is expected to help equip the Lebanese Army and boost its oil and energy cooperation with the country, it noted./end
