BISHKEK, October 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's observers will monitor the
pace of the parliamentary elections due to be held in Kyrgyzstan on
October 10, chairman of the Central Electoral Commission for the holding
of elections and referendums in the republic Akylbek Sariyev said on
Thursday.
"We have already accredited more than 800 people, including many
observers from Russia," he said. According to Sariyev, international
organizations, including the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Commonwealth of
Independent States, sent their missions to Kyrgyzstan to monitor the
elections.
The Russian Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will also send its
representatives. "The CEC of Russia will send its observers, although at
first it said that it would send nobody," Sariyev specified. "But it is
connected with the fact that elections will also be held in Russia on
October 10."
Representatives of 29 political parties vie for 120 seats in
Kyrgyzstan's new parliament. According to sociological studies, only six
or nine parties will be able to overcome a five-percent barrier and enter
the legislative body.
