VP: Establishment of Iran-Egypt flights will boost tourism industry

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA – Vice-President and Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Hamid Baqaei said here on Tuesday evening that the signing of the agreement on establishment of Tehran-Cairo flights will pave the way for promoting mutual ties in the field of aviation, tourism and other economic issues.

Upon his arrival from Cairo, Baqaei told reporters that the agreement between the two countries after 30 years has an important place.

He added that since last year, negotiations with the Egyptian side on different issues of aviation had been done.

He noted that upon the agreement, flights between Tehran and Cairo will be established after 33 years.

Baqaei added that in addition to the agreement, two other agreements were signed, too.

These two agreements were between Egyptian Aviation Organization and its Iranian counterpart about technical issues and aviation communication and also another one between Iran’s Kish Air and an Egyptian private airline about direct flight between Tehran and Cairo.

The VP said that signing these three agreements are a ground for establishment of relations between Iran and Egypt private sectors in the fields of aviation, tourism and other economic issues.

He reminded that the determined ceiling in the agreement is 28 flights in a week, which is equally divided between the two sides.
Baqaei added that upon the agreement, three Iranian airlines “ Iran Air, Kish Air and Aseman “ have been introduced for the initiation of the flights between the two countries, but there is no limitation in this concern and all airlines can start their activities for establishment of a flight line.

He said that Egyptian airlines are ready now to establish the flight line and managing director of one of them has signed an agreement with Iranian airline 'Kish Air” and has expressed its readiness to start work.

The VP said that the flights would be the first step towards initiation of official relations between Iran and Egypt and the second step would be issuing visas for citizens of the two countries.

Baqaei continued that Iranian delegation presence in Egypt had a vast reflection in the Egyptian media and called it an important diplomatic victory for Iranian nation.

He noted that the media of the Zionist regime also paid wide attention to the agreed agreements and showed sensitivity toward the issue.

Head of the CHHTO expressed hope that the signed agreement would be a big step towards establishment of ties between Iran and Egypt./end
