EU-Asian leaders stress diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear row
Berlin, Oct 6, IRNA -- The Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit on Tuesday emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear dispute.
Meeting in Brussels, leaders of 27 European Union and 19 Asian states reiterated in a statement 'the importance of finding an early negotiated solution to Iran's nuclear programme' which would restore international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme, while respecting Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The EU has already imposed sanctions on Tehran which go well beyond United Nations-mandated actions.
That EU decision has been slammed by UN veto right holders China and Russia, both ASEM members./end
