Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov officially incorporated in ASEM

BRUSSELS, October 5 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov officially incorporated Russia in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on
Tuesday.
"The accession in ASEM is Russia's conscious choice," he said in his
speech at the 8th ASEM summit in Brussels. "We consider this decision to
be a fact of understanding that after Russia joins ASEM the organization
will build up its potential of cooperation for a stronger partnership
between Asia and Europe," Lavrov noted. "In the conditions of
globalisation our interdependence is growing steadily. All of us are
seriously concerned over the risks of the proliferation of nuclear weapons
and mass destruction weapons and their delivery vehicles in general," the
minister pointed out.
"We are confident that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty remains
the cornerstone of international security that should be built up in all
possible ways," Lavrov underlined. In this respect, he urged all countries
"to take all efforts to upgrade and universalise global non-proliferation
regimes, as well as to make the disarmament process in all directions
truly multilateral."
