IRANIAN PRESIDENT REPRESENTED BY HIS FOREIGN MINISTER AT ICIS

Jakarta, July 30, 2008 (ANTARA) - Iranian President Mahmood Ahmadinejad was represented by his Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki at the third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) opened here Wednesday.

Mottaki said in his address that over the last century there had been injustice in form of slavery, acquisition, colonialism, neo-colonialism, discrimination, apartheid, political and economic hegemony in the world with the support of the superiors.

This had led to assaults to the believers of any religious creeds, in the form of movies, cartoons, books and articles by sponsors of oppression and injustice, he said.

Another attacks on believers come from the so-called religious narrow mindedness and extremism that resort to violent action on behalf of religion, he added.

Referring to these forms of injustice, he delivered the message of the Iranian President calling on all Moslem scholars and thinkers in the world to take clear position against them.

Mottaki also said, "Islam is religion of peace, tranquility and wisdom, and sublime Islamic teachings have rejected any threat to the lives, properties and dignity of people and of course legitimize the right of people to defend themselves against any unlawful threats to their lives, property and honor".

The Iranian Foreign Minister in conclusion conveyed the Irian President's wish for success and luck to the thinkers and ulemas taking part in the the confere.
