PRESIDENT'S ADVISOR AT INT'L MEETING ON ABOLITION DEATH PENALTY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President's legal policy advisor G.Ganzoirg has participated in international meeting on abolition of capital punishment. It ran September 28-29 in Madrid, Spain. Present there were representatives of Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Switzerland, Portugal, France, Italy, the South Africa, the Philippines, Algeria and Mongolia.
The conference has officially established an international commission against the capital punishment and endorsed its rules. A political declaration has been issued at the meeting to appeal the entire world to completely abolish the death penalty by the end of 2015.
At the conference, G.Ganzorig said the Mongolian President appreciates the international commission establisjment and the declaration, and then spoke in detaile about action the governmental and the Presidential have been running for abolishing the death penalty. On behalf of the President, he has expressed thanks to all--Mongolian state organization, NGOs, civilians, foreign countries, international organizations and some people--for supporting the State Head's initiative on guaranteeing the right of living which is proclaimed in the Constitution of Mongolia.
In May of 2010, a former Ambassador of Spain Raphael Valli suggested Mongolia's President join the initiative on abolition of the capital punishment and attend the Madrid meeting.
This meeting has been organized sponsored by the Spanish government. The international commission's headquarters will be located in Switzerland running permanent activities.
Mr. Valli has underlined in his speech that Mongolia has worked out a bill on abolition of capital punishment which significantly contributed to the global endeavor to get rid of the punishment. “The Mongolian President's initiative has been appreciated by the commission,” Mr. Valli went on.
Members of the commission and the government of Spain have thanked Mongolia's President for supporting the commission, and expressed a hope that to the countries, who have abolished the punishment, Mongolia will add thanks to developing active cooperation with the commission.
