Figure skater Kim Yu-na to announce new coach this week
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (Yonhap) -- Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kim Yu-na
said Sunday that she has completed her search to fill the vacancy left when she
parted with her Canadian coach and will announce her new coach next week.
In August, Kim left Brian Orser for unclear reasons. Under Orser, she won various
world championships and became the 2010 Olympic champion in ladies singles.
"We'll be able to tell you next week of my new coach," Kim told reporters after a
figure skating show in Los Angeles.
An insider of her agency, AT Sports, said the new coach is an American man who is
active in Los Angeles, but refused to give specifics.
Her new training rink will also be unveiled this week, her agency added. The
20-year-old has moved her training site to L.A. from Toronto, Canada, after
parting with Orser. Preparing for the two-day All That Skating ice show, produced
by her agency, Kim has been training at East West Ice Palace, known as Michelle
Kwan's personal training rink.
"I've been really expecting this show that was held at the Staples Center where I
won the world title. I'm so glad it was fun," Kim said, referring to a March
championship there that she won with a record-setting performance.
Kim said she has no immediate plan for a new ice show but will return to the
daily life and begin preparations for the world championships in March.
