Drug charges follow Perth car crash
A 27-year-old man has been charged with drug and driving offences after chemicals
used to make methylamphetamine were allegedly found inside a car that crashed into a
shop after a police pursuit in Perth.
Police say they attempted to stop a speeding car about 3.15am (WST) on Sunday.
They said that after the car narrowly avoided colliding with two police vehicles, it
went through a red light and crashed into a shop front in Mt Lawley in Perth's inner
east.
The driver attempted to back the vehicle out of the shop front but he collided with
the front of a police vehicle, causing minor damage, before he was arrested by
officers.
A search of the car located items consistent with the manufacture of
methylamphetamine, including dangerous chemicals, police said in a statement.
The driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for assessment and has been charged
with manufacturing a prohibited drug, failing to stop, having no authority to drive,
driving an unlicensed vehicle and using false number plates.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.
