BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - The Bangkok-based Criminal Court in Bangkok on Thursday morning is delivering its verdict on the high-profile tax evasion case against Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, wife of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and two associates, who will all appear for the court's ruling.

More than 200 uniformed police officers provided tight security asKhunying Pojaman and her son Panthongtae arrived at the court. Mr. Thaksin travelled to the court in another automobile, accompanied by his daughters Pinthongta and Paethongtan.

In addition to the physical security, surveillance cameras are also recording the movements of persons and groups supporting or againstKhunying Pojaman, who are anticipated in full force at the court.

Khunying Pojaman and her step-brother Bhanapot Damapong and her personal secretary Kanchana Honghern were jointly accused by the Attorney General on March 26, 2007 for colluding on evading about Bt546 million (US$16.4 million) in taxes.

The charges that were lodged against them were that the trio hadintentionally avoided paying the taxes of a subsidiary firm of Shin Corp.

The prosecution had called more than 30 witnesses, including revenue department officials, to testify against the trio while the defendants brought nearly 20 witnesses to testify on their behalf.

The trio denied the charges.
