Three policemen, one villager wounded in Yala explosion

YALA, Oct 2 -- Three policemen and a villager were wounded Saturday after a bomb believed to be planted by insurgents exploded in front of Raman railway station in the troubled southern province of Yala, police said.

Police said the incident took place when the bomb hidden beneath a motorcycle exploded while three police officers were crossing the railway line to get to their vehicle which was parked on the other side.

The explosion also wounded a local resident who was standing nearby, police said.

The motorcycle was totally destroyed. Police found fragments of the explosive device, believed to be home made, electrical wire and an electronic circuit plate at the scene.

Police said they believed the bombing was carried out by insurgents operating in the area wanting to create unrest there. (MCOT online news)
