BEJING, September 30 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and China regard Central
Asia as a key area for their cooperation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister
Alexey Borodavkin said on Thursday after working consultations at the
Chinese Foreign Ministry.
"Central Asia is an important guideline for our cooperation. In that
region we interact with China both on the bilateral basis and within the
framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation," he said.
As for the consultations he has had in Beijing, Borodavkin said, "the
parties have thoroughly discussed preparations for the next session of the
Heads of Government Council, due in Dushanbe in late November."
According to the Russian deputy foreign minister, "The economic
component tops the agenda. First and foremost this applies to economic
cooperation, trade, investments, and economic and humanitarian assistance
to Kyrgyzstan and a number of other problems. Their solution will make the
SCO's economic activities still more efficient," the diplomat said.
