DUSHANBE, September 29 (Itar-Tass) -- Two suspected members of illegal
armed groups have been detained in Tajikistan's eastern Rasht district, a
spokesman for the country's interior ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
According to Makhmadullo Asadullayev, the two were members of an
anti-government group led by former opposition field commander
Mirzokhudzha Akhmadov accused of being behind the September 19 attack on
the government military convoy in the Kamarob gorge in the Rasht district,
in which 26 servicemen and officers of the national army were killed.
According to Tajik secret services, after Akhmadov's house was taken
by storm, police found lots of weapons and munitions. Two years ago, he
was accused of being involved in the murder of elite police commander Oleg
Zakharchenko. Later, due to unknown reasons, Akhmadov was relieved of
criminal liability.
The country's security services say several illegal armed groups, with
a total strength of at least 100 gunmen, are active in Tajikistan's
eastern regions.
