HM King attends Siriraj Hospital royal concert in tribute to his musical talent

BANGKOK, Sept 29 -- His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn were guests of honour at a royal concert Wednesday night at Siriraj Hospital in a tribute to His Majesty the King's musical talent.

Rejoicing well-wishers crowded the way from Chalermprakiat Building to the auditorium to convey their best wishes to the King.

HM the King in a tuxedo in a wheel chair had a smile on his face as he waved his hand to the well wishers.

It is the first time the HM the King has attended a concert since being admitted to hospital for medical treatment and recuperation on Sept 20, 2009 -- one year and nine days ago.

The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra performed his compositions in a concert at the Royal Medical College auditorium.

The concert lasted about one hour and comprised 19 songs composed by HM the King including H.M. Blues, Candlelight Blues, Love at Sundown, Falling Rain, and Near Dawn.

The concert was attended by some 300 guests.

Dr Teerawat Kulthanan, dean of Mahidol University's Medical School, said earlier that the "Siriraj Concert in honour of the Great Artistic Monarch" was held to commemorate the last musical performance His Majesty played for a student audience at the same venue on Sept 29,1976. (MCOT online news)
