Tatarstan to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam.
KAZAN, September 29 (Itar-Tass) - Tatarstan intends to strengthen
cooperation with Vietnam in the sphere of machine manufacturing, light
industry and education.
This was stated at a meeting in Kazan between
Tatarstan's President Rustam Minnikhanov and Vietnamese Ambassador
Plenipotentiary to Russia Bui Dinh Dinh.
The president of Tatarstan noted that the Zelenodolsk shipbuilding
plant had built two Gepard class frigates for the Vietnamese Navy. "We
hope that cooperation in shipbuilding will continue developing, and not
only in the military but also in the civil sphere," Minnikhanov said.
The sides marked successful activity in Vietnam of a joint venture
assembling KAMAZ trucks. "We must further advance KAMAZ production on your
market," the Tatarstan leader said. He also offered the Vietnamese side to
pay attention to helicopters of the Kazan helicopter plant, which are
exported to more than 70 countries.
As for the education sector, Russia and Vietnam developed close
relations back in the USSR times, according to Minnikhanov. "Seventy
Vietnamese students study in Kazan, but we want the number of students to
grow at least tenfold," he stressed, noting that "all conditions for
studies and residence of foreign students" had been created in the city.
Some of the students have already moved to comfortable buildings of the
Universiade 2013 Village.
"Let us develop in Tatarstan light industry, where you are
traditionally strong," Minnikhanov offered. "Political relations between
our countries have always been warm, but trade relations must get a
boost," the ambassador plenipotentiary stressed.
He offered to send Vietnamese and Tatarstan's delegations to Tatarstan
and Vietnam respectively in order to consider and sign concrete
agreements. Bui Dinh Dinh invited the president of Tatarstan to visit
Vietnam.
According to the Customs, trade between Tatarstan and Vietnam stood at
8.5 million dollars in 2009, and made up four million dollars in the first
half of this year.
