Coalition partner withdrawal won't affect cabinet reshuffle: PM
BANGKOK, July 30 (TNA) - Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej confirmed thedeparture of the Puea Pandin Party from his coalition government will byno means affect the reshuffled list of his new cabinet.
Mr. Samak said the new cabinet line-up would remain unchanged and besubmitted to His Majesty the King for approval as earlier planned, though the Puea Pandin Party had pulled out of the coalition led by the prime minister's ruling People Power Party.
The premier earlier said he planned to forward his new cabinet line-up to His Majesty the King on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Puea Pandin Party leader Suwit Khunkitti said he isconstitutionally entitled to withdraw his party from the PPP-led coalition government at any time without having to seek prior approval from the party's executive board.
The outgoing industry minister said he will explain to his Puea Pandin MPs and other party members the reasons for the unexpected departure from the Samak cabinet during a party meeting next Tuesday.
Mr. Suwit earlier announced he had decided to pull out of the PPP-ledcoalition government due to differences over constitution amendment bids and the Preah Vihear dispute.
The party leader added that the Puea Pandin party leadership may bechanged with himself leaving the party's top post in foreseeable future, following its withdrawal from the coalition.
Meanwhile, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva commented that the Samak administration would survive without Puea Pandin Partyparticipation, though its stability and credibility would undoubtedly be affected.
However, any problems among the rank and file of the Puea Pandin Party would hardly affect the coalition government's stability, Mr. Abhisitnoted.
The Opposition leader said he would not welcome the speculated naming of former police chief Pol. Gen. Kowit Wattana as interiorminister-cum-deputy prime minister.
The Samak government's handling of internal security would remain aworrisome issue, should Gen. Kowit -- who had allegedly failed to maintain peace and order during his previous tenure as police chief -- become interior minister, according to the Democrat Party leader.
In another development, Puea Pandin MP Suradej Yasawat said a number of his party colleagues had disagreed to Mr Suwit's unsolicited decision to leave the Samak cabinet.
But the Puea Pandin Party would remain far from disintegrated though it had pulled out of the coalition government and joined the Democrat-led Opposition, the MP said.
Puea Pandin MP Waemahadi Waeda-oh said he and Puea Pandin MP Manop Pattanawong agreed with the party leader with whom he had alreadydiscussed about the withdrawal.
The Narathiwat MP said he had been embarrassed with the Samak government's handling of the southernmost problems and admitted that unity among the Puea Pandin rank and file remained problematic.
