Roar skipper elated with selection

Brisbane Roar skipper Matt McKay has called on the six A-League players named in
Holger Osieck's Socceroos squad to face Paraguay to repay the faith shown in them by
the new coach.
McKay is in line to play his fifth international after being named in the 19-man
squad to meet the South Americans in Sydney on Saturday week.
The 27-year-old midfielder was named alongside fellow home-based players Sydney FC's
Alex Brosque, Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic, Gold Coast pair Jason Culina and
Michael Thwaite and Wellington defender Jade North.
McKay said his form has been solid although he was slightly surprised but elated
when given the news of his selection on Monday night.
"It's very encouraging and the coach has publicly said he will reward players no
matter where they play," McKay said.
"It's given us a good opportunity and if we can prove ourselves more (A-League) boys
will be part of the future.
"We are representing the A-league boys, the six of us there, and we will work hard
and hopefully do well.
"It's unbelievable and I'll get to meet some players I have never met before that
have been playing in Europe."
McKay said Culina was the example the remaining five A-League players in the squad
needed to follow.
"It's obviously good and Jason will be there right up until the next World Cup and
it's up to the other players to join him," McKay said.
Osieck has stuck true to his word in providing opportunities for A-League players.
The German's bold decision will assist the promotion of A-League players who was
largely ignored by his predecessor Pim Verbeek.
McKay knew Osieck was in the stands for two of Roar's matches and his presence
around the national league has been duly noted by the players.
"It gives everyone an opportunity," McKay said.
As for McKay's long term A-league future, he said he was out of contract at the end
of the season and would weigh up any overseas opportunities before committing again
to the Roar.
"I'm coming to end of my career and I need a good contract and I need to be stable
and if the Roar can provide that then I'll be happy," McKay said.
