Top Thai designer asked to mentor others in Thailand
NEW YORK, Sept 28 - Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya invited prominent Thai designer Thakoon Panichgul --whose work has impressed US first lady Michelle Obama-- to share his knowledge to inspire and develop other Thai designers.
Mr Kasit, in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, asked Mr Thakoon to share his knowledge and experience with Thai entrepreneurs and fashion design students in order to enhance the Thai government's creative economy policy.
"We need Thakoon's perspectives on production. If our fabric is produced with good quality, we should also know how to showcase it in the fashion world," said the foreign minister.
He pointed out that designers and factories or villages that produce local fabric should synergise in order to follow the global trend.
Mr Kasit also met members of the Thai Artists Association in New York and said the association could play its role in connecting Thai artists in the two countries to find jobs in the fields of films, photography, design and acting.
The minister said the association could also advise other Thai agencies in the US on how to promote Thailand's image. (MCOT online news)
