UNESCO world conf on early childhood care, education due in Moscow.
MOSCOW, September 27 (Itar-Tass) -- The first UNESCO World Conference
on Early Childhood Care and Education will open here on Monday. The
participants in the conference will discuss several topical problems on
the protection of rights and interests of children in all countries on
September 27-29.
A forthcoming UNESCO world conference is seeking to develop an
instructional and educational policy for underage children in order to
provide the necessary starting opportunities in the development and
education for all children, including those from the unfavorable
environment and socially vulnerable layers of the society, the forum
organizers noted. The participants in the conference hope that the
conference will turn into one of the highlighted events this year, because
UNESCO declared 2010 as the year of global exchange and dialogue between
cultures in order to build up the wealth and well-being of nations.
The Russian government, which is one of the conference organizers,
always gave close attention and made investments in the development of
preschool education and care for children. Russia has developed a
long-standing tradition for a comprehensive preschool education through
the system of state-run educational establishments, UNESCO stated.
Currently alternative and flexible types of preschool education are
efficiently introduced, advanced training courses are provided for the
personnel of preschool educational establishments and innovative
pedagogical programs are promoted in Russia. The implementation of the
UNESCO project can be useful for other countries and regions to build up
their potentials in preschool education, the forum organizers pointed out.
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova will participate in the
conference and will speak about the results of the first day of the
conference at a press conference in the Itar-Tass headquarters on Monday
afternoon.
The first UNESCO World Conference on Early Childhood Care and
Education will bring together about 1,000 people from more than 120
countries. The former UNESCO general director Koichiro Matsuura is
expected to attend the conference. Some 34 delegations will arrive from
Europe and North America, eight delegations from Arab countries, 31
delegations from Africa, 16 delegations from Latin America and the
Caribbean Sea region and 28 countries from the Asia-Pacific region.
Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei
Denisov, other officials from Russian educational and pedagogical
institutions will represent Russia at the UNESCO World Conference.
Alongside, many international organizations, including the World Bank,
UNICEF (the U.N. Children's Fund), the International Labour Organization,
the U.N World Food Programme, the African Union and others will be
represented broadly at the UNESCO World Conference.
