Iranian weightlifter wins gold in Turkey
ANTALYA, Turkey, Sept. 27 (MNA) -- Iranian weightlifter Behdad Salimi claimed the gold medal of the Men’s +105 kg category of the 2010 World Weightlifting Championships on Sunday.
Salimi lifted 208 kg in snatch and won the silver medal behind Russia’s Evgeny Chigishev who lifted 210 kg. Artem Udachin from Ukraine won bronze by lifting 205 kg.
Salimi in the clean and jerk claimed silver after lifting 245 kg. The gold in clean and jerk went to 2008 Olympic champion Matthias Steiner from Germany who lifted 246 kg.
Behdad Salimi claimed the gold with a total weight of 453 kg. Steiner won silver with 440 kg and Udachin claimed bronze lifting 440 kg.
Iran’s another representative Kianoush Rostami in 77 kg category had already won a bronze medal in snatch.
The 2010 World Weightlifting Championships brought together nearly 1,200 weightlifters from 86 countries. The competitions also served as qualification game for the 2012 London Olympics.
