Iran will never allow UAE to inspect its ships: admiral
TEHRAN, Sept. 27 (MNA) -- The Islamic Republic of Iran will never allow the United Arab Emirates to inspect Iranian ships, Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday.
“We’ll never allow such a country to inspect our ships, and actually, the UAE will not dare to inspect Iranian ships,” Rear Admiral Sayyari told the Tehran Times.
The UAE ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, in a recent letter to the New York Times, claimed that the UAE had inspected hundreds of ships carrying suspicious cargo to Iran.
Sayyari said such remarks are just part of a propaganda campaign.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy Force is in complete preparedness to defend the country’s interests in all waters,” he stated.
However, he noted that Iran will reciprocate if its ships are inspected by the UAE.
In his letter to the New York Times, the UAE ambassador wrote, “We have also interdicted dozens of ships and inspected hundreds of shipments of Iran-bound cargos suspected of violating sanctions, and have coordinated closely with American and international authorities to share intelligence and to stop and seize sensitive transshipments.”
However, Iran has proposed that regional countries work together to enhance security in the Persian Gulf region and has always insisted that extra-regional military forces should play no role in the Persian Gulf.
In addition, the Iranian Navy and other branches of the country’s Armed Forces have conducted numerous military maneuvers in the Persian Gulf to enhance regional security.
