Medvedev arrives in Beijing to hold talks with Chinese leadership.
BEIJING, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev, making
an official visit to China, arrived from Dalian to Beijing, where the main
"negotiation" day will be held, Itar-Tass learnt from the Russian
president's aide Sergei Prikhodko.
The Russian head of state will hold talks with Chinese President Hu
Jintao and other top leaders of the country. The leaders will make
statements for the press, and it is planned to sign several agreements on
cooperation in their presence.
According to Prikhodko, Medvedev plans to discuss with the Chinese
president the situation on the Korean Peninsula and around the Iranian
nuclear programme. "In the light of aggravated situation on the Korean
Peninsula and around it, close coordination of the stands of Russia and
China on the peninsula problem and on the situation in North East Asia as
a whole preserves its topicality," Prikhodko said.
He also noted "Russia and China actively cooperate on the entire range
of problems, connected with the Iranian nuclear programme". "Both Russia
and China proceed from a premise that the implementation of UN Security
Council resolutions should be aimed at returning the Iranian side to the
fruitful cooperation with the world community and the IAEA," Prikhodko
emphasised.
According to the appraisal of the president's aide, "China is one of
the most active Russia's partners in ensuring strategic stability". "The
two powers crusade for pushing collectively worked-out decisions in the
sphere of non-proliferation and control over armaments and ABM in
compliance with the principles of equal and inseparable security for all,"
the president's aide noted.
He predicts "while discussing the situation in the Asia-Pacific
region, they will centre on conceptual questions of creating a new
regional structure of stability and security as well as developing
integration and cooperation within multilateral mechanisms, operating in
the Asia-Pacific region".
Prikhodko said that during the visit, it is expected to sign " a big
package of documents on boosting cooperation in the oil and gas sphere", a
contract on a project of two power units for the Tianwan nuclear power
station and around a dozen of understandings.
The president's assistant called "completion of work, headed by
vice-premier Igor Sechin, achievement of specific and very important
understandings, which are of long-term nature in the oil and gas sphere,
as one of the most graphic results" of Russian-Chinese cooperation.
Prikhodko pointed to a Joint Statement on all-round strengthening of
Russian-Chinese relations of partnership and strategic cooperation among
political documents, which are planned to be signed during the visit.
"One of the most important spheres of strategic partnership between
Russia and China is cooperation on the international arena, aimed at
consolidating multipolarity and formation of a new democratic world order,
based on collective approaches, equality, generally recognised norms and
principles of international law. These principles are recorded in the
draft of a Joint Statement," the president's aide emphasized.
The sides also prepared a joint statement by the Russian and Chinese
presidents on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the victory in the
Second World War, where "Russia and China assess from close positions the
results and lessons of the Second World War and denounce attempts at
forging its history, heroisation of Nazi and their collaborators".
According to Prikhodko, it is also planned to sign an Agreement on
cooperation in the struggle against terrorism, extremism and separatism, a
Memorandum between the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency and the Chinese
Agriculture Ministry on mutual understanding in preventing illegal fishing
of live marine resources and an agreement between the VTB Bank and the
Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
