Medvedev converses with WW II vets after visit to Russian cemetery.

LUSHUN, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev, who
visited the Russian Military Cemetery in Lushun on Sunday, had a
conversation with Russian and Chinese veterans of the Second World War.
Prior to the meeting with veterans, the Russian head of state
inspected a temporary exhibition, housed at the memorial complex to the
Soviet soldiers.
The exposition of the Moscow Armed Forces Museum and St. Petersburg
museum of military uniforms is devoted to the events of the Second World
War and displays photographs, weapons and military uniforms of that
period. Photographs show such important events of the war as the siege of
Leningrad, defence of Moscow and capture of Berlin.
"I visited the memorial to the Soviet troops; it's very good that it
was restored. I'm thankful to our Chinese friends for their aid and
assistance, since this memorial symbolizes our friendship," Medvedev
shared his impressions of the memorial's visit with the veterans.
The president also said that he had walked around the exposition
grounds and pointed to the importance that young men have a chance to get
acquainted with the exhibits at the show.
"We should jointly care for memory; the memory of future generations,
averting any distortions of historic events; we should protect the truth
about the events of that war; the more so, since there are forces, trying
to distort this historic truth," Medvedev said. He added that during the
visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao, the sides had adopted a joint
statement, devoted to the events of that period.
The president thanked veterans for what they had done, as well as for
the contribution they made into the relations between Russia and China.
In turn, Russian and Chinese veterans shared with Medvedev their
recollections of events of the Second World War and of how they had fought.
The Russian leader had a picture taken with veterans before his
departure.
