Medvedev to focus on trade & economy during visit to China.
MOSCOW, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - Trade and economic cooperation as
well as energy projects will be in the focus of attention during Dmitry
Medvedev's visit to China that begins on Sunday.
"The most serious attention will be paid to developing trade and
economic ties, especially to cooperation in the sphere of energy,"
Medvedev said in an interview with the Chinese daily Remin Ribao.
" I am planning to have a meaningful discussion in other areas such as
scientific-technological cooperation, joint work in the field of
environment as well as expansion of regional contacts," he said.
The Russian president spoke highly of Russian-Chinese relations. "They'
ve never been characterized with such a high level of trust. Practical
achievements of our interaction prove just that. Suffice it to remember
the final solution of the complicated border issue that had been unsettled
for many years," Medvedev went on to say.
"The positive dynamics of Russian-Chinese trade turnover that had
grown by more than 30% annually since 2001, almost doubled in the first
six months of 2011 to reach 25.5 bln dollars," Medvedev stressed.
"The high dynamics of bilateral strategic partnership spreads to all
spheres without exception: political, trade, economic, social and
humanitarian.
"We closely coordinate actions in the international arena, defend
common approaches to forming a fair multi-polar set-up based on
unconditional compliance with the principles and norms of international
law," the Russian president went on to say.
"Another factor that determines a high degree of our interaction is
that Russia and China are solving tasks that are in many ways similar as
we move along the path of all-round modernization.
In his interview the Russian president also spoke about a plan of his
trip.
"I am going to begin my tour with visiting Dalian. There, near the
Lushun district there 's a Memorial to Soviet soldiers who gave the lives
for the freedom and independence of China. Symbolically, it was restored
through joint efforts of Russian and Chinese organizations. I am planning
to attend the unveiling of this monument," Medvedev said.
In Dalian, the president will meet the teachers and students of the
Institute of Foreign Languages, which specializes in the study of Russian
language. Medvedev said that the opening of the first Russian cultural
centre China would be a milestone event.
"The Chinese say that a word is the key to human hearts, and you are
absolutely right: today we can talk about a 'burst of interest' in Russian
and Chinese languages in our respective countries," he said.
"We wish that more Chinese students get education in Russia's leading
institutions of high learning, while Russian students should study in
China, " the president emphasized.
The Beijing part of the program includes talks with the Chinese
leadership on a wider range of bilateral and international issues.
"A number of vital events linked to EXPO-2010 are scheduled in
Shanghai. September 28 has been declared Day of Russia at the world
exhibition, and I will certainly be present there," Medvedev said.
The exhibition opens up an excellent opportunity for Russia to tell
about modernization and innovative development of the Russian economy.
"The bulk of exposition of the Russian pavilion in Shanghai features
the achievements of the pioneers of modernization, such as the Rosnano and
Rosatom companies as well as Russian regions," Medvedev said.
.Voronezh sets record for the Guinness Book.
VORONEZH, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - The people of Voronezh have set a
record for the national Guinness Book of records. During the recent City
Day celebrations 25,000 Voronezh residents drank more than four liters of
milk produced by local farms. Alexei Svistunov, the editor-in-chief of
the Guinness Book of Records for Russia, told reporters. He considers the
drinking of milk to be a healthy sport unlike similar contests in eating
hamburgers and other fat-containing foods. The residents of Voronezh
proved that they like milk more than vodka. It took them five hours to
drink almost 4.5 tons of milk. People aged from two to eighty took part in
the contest. The minimum amount of milk required for participation was 200
grams. However, the most obstinate milk lovers consumed about five liters
of milk.
