USAN SENDS LETTER TO COLORADO SENATOR MICHAEL BENNET
Baku, September 25 (AzerTAc). Senator for the US Colorado state Michael Bennet sent to one of the Azerbaijani-American members of USAN a letter. The Board of Directors sent the letter to the Colorado senator in response.
The letter reads:
“Dear Senator Bennet,
Your September 20, 2010, letter of response to one of your Azerbaijani-American constituents, who is also an active member of the U.S. Azeris Network (USAN), the largest Azerbaijani-American grassroots advocacy organization, was brought to our attention. While we all thank you for your attention and response to the matters raised by your Azerbaijani-American constituent, at the same time we are greatly disturbed by your statements in that letter, especially since they are attributed to the entire Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. They are not only insulting to the Azerbaijani-American community, but also happen to violate the official position of the U.S. government. We hope that you are not kowtowing to the Armenian special interest groups such as ANCA, with its leadership such as its former chairman Mourad Topalian convicted of terrorism charges, in light of the election year as well as the fact that you are trailing your Republican opponent in the polls.”
The letter underlines: “Mr. Bryza, an experienced and professional diplomat nominated by President Obama to be the next Ambassador to Azerbaijan, has been taking heat from both Azerbaijani and Armenian sides for many years. Neither side considers him to be “pro-” anyone or anything in that region. It is therefore interesting how Mr. Bryza, who has become an easy election-year target of the Armenian lobby campaign, initiated by the Armenian National Committee of America, is being placed on hold by a Member of Senate with the biggest Armenian constituency in the nation. All of this for one simple reason that he, as much as any prior US Ambassador to Azerbaijan or any other country of the world, does not recognize either the independence or legitimacy of the so-called “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”, or any other Armenian allegations for that matter, simply following the official US stance on both issues. The Armenian lobby in the United States desires to see only officers like former Ambassador John Evans who fell victim to Armenian propaganda and was terminated from an ambassadorial position in Armenia. In other words, Mr. Evans was fired by the U.S. State Department for not following the official U.S. policy, for significantly deviating from the official U.S. stance, for damaging U.S. national interests and for tainting himself with clear evidence of bias and prejudice against Turkey and Azerbaijan, two valuable U.S. allies in the region.”
The letter reads: “The reasons given by the Armenian lobby voiced through Senator Menendez and Senator Boxer are, of course, groundless.”
In the final, the USAN says: “Mr. Bennet, you have the right to vote in the U.S. Senate. But we, the Azerbaijani-Americans and Turkish-Americans, have the right to vote in the U.S. elections, and make sure that our voice is heard loud and clear.”
