INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FORTHCOMING PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS KICKS OFF IN BAKU

Baku, September 25 (AzerTAc). An international conference on the November parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan has started today in the Supreme Court here.
The conference brings together representatives from the Presidential Administration, Council of Europe`s Venice Commission, European Court of Human Rights, Supreme Court and courts of Appeal.
The conference was opened by chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev who briefed the participants on Azerbaijan`s electoral practice.
Chief of the Presidential Administration`s department on work with the law-enforcement bodies Fuad Alasgarov spoke of what had been done in the country to conduct the elections in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code and European standards. Alasgarov underscored the importance of the conference in terms of improvement of the electoral practice and creation of active electoral environment in society.
Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert said there was close cooperation between the Commission and Azerbaijan`s relevant structures.
He also stressed the importance of the event, saying it will contribute to developing the practice of consideration of electoral complaints.
