PREMIER AT DISCUSSION ON CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN TO DEMOCRACY


Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister S.Batbold has taken part in a discussion themed "Women as a Critical Force in Democratic Governance". It was held September 23 in the ECOSOC Chamber of the United Nations Headquarters in New York co-organized by the League of Democracies and the Council of Women World Leaders.
The gathered have emphasized that it is important to ensure political and economic participation of women in democratic society and to promote women's representation at political decision-making level so that the goals are realized reflected in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targeted at ensuring a gender equality and reducing mortality of mothers and infants.
One of the participants of the summit, the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Mrs. Roza Otunbayeva has given a brief report on state and economic situation in her country and on other social issues.
Mongolia's Premier noted that main basis of sustainable society and development is the democracy, and wished Kyrgyzstan to gain achievements in democratic deeds. He underlined it is obvious that indicators of the goal to reduce a poverty is to worsen if the state does take steps such as improving livelihood and education of women, increase salaries, promote a participation of women in the political decision-making level.
