ASTANA, September 23 (Itar-Tass) - Ermentai Sultanmurat, Head of the
World Assembly of Turkic Peoples, is initiating the nomination of
Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Sultanmurat has already prepared an address to the governments and
parliaments of Turkic-speaking and Central-Asian countries and to the
public and international organizations with a suggestion that the
candidacy of the Kazakhstan's President be referred to Norway's Nobel
Prize Committee and be included in a list of candidates.
In the opinion of Sultanmurat, "Nursultan Nazarbayev deserves a Nobel
Peace Prize for the decision to close down the Semipalatinsk (nuclear)
test site, for nuclear disarmament initiatives, and for the holding of a
religious congress in Astana".
Earlier, the nomination of Nursultan Nazarbayev for a Nobel Peace
Prize was suggested by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, US
Congress members, and the Chechen public organization "The Children of
Kazakhstan".
