Police arrest arsenal employee, three accomplices for RPG theft
BANGKOK, Sept 23 -- An employee of a Thai army's Lopburi army arsenal and three civilians accomplices were arrested by police for the alleged theft of munitions from the arms depot, while a manhunt continued for the fifth suspect.
The army employee who worked at the Lopburi arsenal was questioned after his DNA was found at the scene. He confessed that he and his friends broke into warehouse No 69
on Sept 1 and smuggled the ammunition, including 9,000 cartridges for 62mm gun and 35 rocket-propelled grenades and sold all them.
They left a pair of scissors, screwdrivers, metal cutting pliers and bottles at the scene--evidence that helped police track them down.
Lopburi Provincial Court approved arrest warrants for five men on charges of breaking into government property and for theft. The fifth suspect was still at large.
Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said the group was believed to be part of a major arms smuggling ring. (MCOT online news)
