CONFERENCE ON MATERNAL MORTALITY RUNS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A conference themed "Situation of maternal mortality in Mongolia and global tendency" was held Tuesday in Ulaanbaatar. It has brought together representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UNICEF and the World Bank (WB).
"A number of maternal mortality cases declined by four per cent in the last 20 years in Mongolia, but a possibility exists to make it lower," experts say. The WHO and other international organizations' representation consider that with this regard Mongolia can reach reflected in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) task because it has been transferred into the category of countries with middle level of maternal mortality.
More than a half of maternal mortality cases occurr in rural areas caused by bad social condition, lack of knowledge and education about health, a poor medical assistance. Thus Mongolia is expected to reduce maternal mortality two times against the present level by 2015 in frames of the MDGs.
