ASTANA, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - Participants in the joint
antiterrorist exercise of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Peace
Mission-2010 have practiced measures to seal off and wipe out a gang of
militants entrenched in a 'populated locality'. The Matybulak training
range in Kazakhstan had been selected as its venue, Colonel Oleg Yushkov,
Russia's aide to the commander of the exercise, told Itar-Tass.
"More than 200 troops, 50 light armoured and special purpose vehicles,
and seven helicopters from all participating countries were involved," he
said.
Under the scenario, first a Russian drone carried out reconnaissance
of the residential area where a group of terrorists had taken shelter.
After that Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Chinese troops cordoned off the
area. In the final phase of the operation the community was cleared of the
intruders with fire support provided by Kazakh helicopter gunships.
