Bike ride to mark Day Without Autos in St Pete Wednesday.
ST PETERSBURG, September 22 (Itar-Tass) - The cyclists of this city
will mark the World Day Without Automobiles by riding across the historial
center of the city on Wednesday.
An official at the regional branch of the Greenpeace of Russia has
told Itar-Tass, "This is a symbolic action which is to remind people of
the automobiles' harm done to the environment and of the existence of
alternative means of transport".
The celebration of the Day Without Autos will be also continued on
Saturday, September 25. Greenpeace suggests that cityfolk give up the use
of private cars for the day and take part in an urban team game. "This
will be an environmental-station direction finding game, a sort of urban
orienteering. Participants in the game will learn how to render their life
safer and how to behave so as to reduce their impact on the environment,"
game organisers pointed out.
