Anti-govt alliance plans tight security for rally on Tuesday
RAYONG, July 30 (TNA) - The Rayong provincial branch of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) is preparing to deploy 300 securityvolunteers to ward off any potential threat in this eastern province.
The volunteers will be on watch in addition to an official security force of 400 police officers and military, according to Suthi Achasai, PAD'sleader in Rayong.
Due to the failure of the authorities to stop violence last week in Udon Thailand, PAD officers on Monday filed a complaint with the United Nationsin Bangkok.
The PAD plans to stage an anti-government protest starting from 4pm Tuesday afternoon in Rayong's Suansimuang Park. At least four high-profile members of the democracy alliance from are scheduled to provide leadership support to the eastern seaboard area, according to PAD Bangkok, including MP Somkiat Pongpaiboon, Somsak Kosaisuk, SirichaiMai-ngam and Veera Somkhwamkid.
Mr. Suthi said he anticipates a turnout of 10,000 persons from Rayong andits neighbouring provinces, and said the rally will end at midnight.
He said the PAD has called upon 300 able-bodied men to provide security in order to avoid a recurrence of last week's violent clash in Udon Thani where PAD protesters clashed with government supporters resulting in more than a dozen injured, while provincial authorities and police reportedly stood by watching without intervening to stop the violence.
