PREMIER AT SUMMIT MEETING OF UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister S.Batbold is taking part in the summit meeting of the UN General Assembly which is considering implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The MDGs, determined in 2000 by state and governmental heads of countries in New York City, are to be realized by every country--as they have obliged themselves--by 2015, thus the eight major matters are being given a consideration such as reducing a poverty two times, making decisive steps in tackling urgent problems in poor and developing countries, ensuring an environmental stability. Moreover, this year's summit is discussing what the countries managed to do in the last five years.
Mongolia has worked out its third national report on the implementation of the MDGs. For the time being, it goes with 66 per cent. Since it is supposed that Mongolia, despite its economic growth, has not reached significant results in reducing poverty, the Premier underlined at the meeting that the government of Mongolia is focusing on the policy to create job places, train people in vocational training centers and to provide them with jobs.
The Premier emphasized that Mongolia is ensuring an allocation of benefits, developing open governance, wants to approve a law on budgetary stability and to make investments in health and education sectors.
September 27, the Premier will deliver a speech at the general debate of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly to express position of his country on international urgent issues. He is drawing attention of the attendees of the meeting to common problems the landlocked developing countries are facing and to cooperation with countries in combating aftermaths of global climate change.
