PRIME MINISTER MEETS WITH BAN KI-MOON

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Premier S.Batbold met Monday with Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
Mr. Ban pointed out that Mongolia has made a big progress in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and highly spoke the achievements gained by the coalition government led by S.Batbold in sustainably ensuring economic growth, reducing mortality of mothers and infants, and involving every child in schools.
He thanked the Premier for taking part in the summit meeting of the UN General Assembly to share experiences in successfully implementing the goals, and appreciated the service of Mongolian troops in the UN peacekeeping operations. He congratulated the government of Mongolia for leading in the the deeds of protecting interests of landlocked developing countries.
In response, the Premier said an inter-governmental multi-lateral agreement on starting activities of the International Think Tank for the Landlocked Developing Countries is ready to be discussed and endorsed by a group of the landlocked countries. Mr. Batbold underlined that Mongolia's government is paying an attention to increasing a number of female peacekeepers in the peacekeeping operations in accordance with a request of the UN Secretary-General.
Mr. Batbold gave the UN Secretary-General a letter on the appeal that was made by the cabinet meeting in its meeting in Gobi desert. "We did it to attract the world community's attention to issues of combating consequences of climate change, including a desertification," he said.
