.Obama to meet Azeri, Kyrgyz presidents in New York.

WASHINGTON, September 21 (Itar-Tass) - US President Barack Obama will
hold a number of bilateral meetings, including with the presidents of
Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan during his stay this week in New York to attend
the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, US President's Deputy
National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes told
journalists on Monday.
On Friday morning he (Obama) will meet President of Azerbaijan (Ilkham
Aliyev) who is an extremely important partner of the United States in a
number of issues, including the US efforts in Afghanistan, Rhodes said.
According to him, the American leader in New York will also talk to
President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva. The White House official noted
that the United States is providing humanitarian and diplomatic support to
the people of Kyrgyzstan as the country is trying to overcome a very
difficult period and build a democracy ensuring equal rights and
opportunities for all citizens of the republic. The president would like
to take advantage of this opportunity at the UN General Assembly in order
to talk to the president of Kyrgyzstan and stress the US side's sustained
support to the Kyrgyz people, Rhodes added.
Besides, Obama plans to hold bilateral meetings with Premier of the
Chinese State Council Wen Jiabao, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan,
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.
The US president will arrive in New York late on Wednesday. On
Thursday, he will take the floor at a plenary meeting of the UN General
Assembly, and them together with his wife he will take part in a regular
annual meeting of the Global Initiative of US ex-President Bill Clinton
aimed at the implementation of a number of large charity projects. The
next day Obama intends to take part in a number of meetings at the UN
General Assembly. They include a meeting under the UN auspices on Sudan in
the run-up to the key referendum of 2011. Also, the second meeting of the
US president with the leaders of ASEAN member countries will be held on
Obama's initiative.
The Russian delegation's workdays in New York will also be full of
discussions within the multilateral mediation formats on the settlement of
important international problems and bilateral contacts. On Tuesday, RF
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will discuss with his colleagues in the
Quartet prospects for the Middle East settlement, and on Wednesday he will
try to find the common points in the dialogue of Moscow with the North
Atlantic Alliance within the framework of the informal meeting of the
NATO-Russia Council, and then with the partners in the "sextet" will
consider possibilities for Iran's return to the negotiating process in
order to remove concerns over its nuclear activities.
The General Assembly is the main deliberative organ of the UN.
Decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security,
admission of new members and budgetary matters, require a two-thirds
majority. Decisions on other questions are by simple majority. Each
country has one vote. Some Member States in arrear of payment may be
granted the right to vote. The UNGA has established a number of Councils,
Working Groups, Boards, etc. for the performance of its functions.
