DUSHANBE, September 21 (Itar-Tass) - The present security system at
the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border "is effective enough and there is no need
for its extra reinforcement," head of the Tajik border guard's press
centre Khushnul Rakhmatullayev said on Tuesday, commenting on the
situation at the border.
The border is free for crossing both ways for people and transport as
border and customs formalities are observed, he said.
He commented on information, published in some media as they referred
to Kyrgyzstan's law enforcement authorities, about "problems with security
at Kyrgyzstan's border". Rakhmatullayev said that "the situation in the
bordering regions is controlled fully by Tajikistan's law enforcement
authorities."
As for the incident with the firing at the caravan of military trucks,
Tajik border guard says it happened several hundred kilometres from the
border with Kyrgyzstan.
"Nothing threatens our neighbours," Rakhmatullayev assured.
At the same time, the Tajik side has been supporting and continues to
support "the improvement of the practical cooperation in exchange of
information for the improvement of its borders' security." The
Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border is 900 kilometres long.
Border crossing stations at the border with Uzbekistan work regularly.
From mid-August, border control was reinforced at the border with
Afghanistan.
