West's slogan of human rights, unreal: Iran President
New York, Sept 21, IRNA – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday evening condemned the unreal slogan of the so-called advocates of human rights in the West and regretted that currently 53 women are expecting death penalty in the US prisons.
The Western media all the time talk about democracy and human rights while such a motto is a sheer lie, he said, adding that currently 53 women are expecting death penalty in the US but the Western media have made huge hue and cry over the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani whose case has not been finalized yet.
He reiterated that Ashtiani's case has been used as propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The President made the remarks while addressing US Ulema and Muslim scholars on the second day of his visit to the US to attend the annual General Assembly of the United Nations this week.
He said, “In the September 11 incident some 3,000 people were killed and we are regretful about it but 110,000 innocent people have so far been murdered in Afghanistan and it is not known until when the massacre will continue.”
Condemning the massacre of one million people in Iraq, he reiterated that they take revenge from the Muslims instead of the terrorists.
President Ahmadinejad, who is on his 7th trip to the US, added that in parts of his speech at the UN General Assembly he will focus on the September 11, 2001 attacks and the invasion of Afghanistan by the US and Western forces.
On Iran-US talks, President Ahmadinejad said Tehran has repeatedly announced its readiness for bilateral talks.
On the release of the American national, Sarah Shourd, he said she was released on the basis of humanitarian issues while there are eight Iranian nationals imprisoned in the US. The President expressed hope that the US administration would release those Iranian citizens.
President Ahmadinejad also underscored the need for unity and solidarity of all Muslim nations throughout the globe./end
