US officials must respect Iranians' choice: President
New York, Sept 21, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday evening that US officials 'must respect the Iranian nation's choice, their laws and Islamic establishment.'
Speaking in an interview with the PBS news channel of the US, the President stressed that 'Iranians are a great and intelligent nation.'
He told Charlie Rose of PBS, 'The more US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton or other US officials make hostile and unfounded statements against the Iranian nation and its officials, the more consolidated and stronger will become the Iranian people.'
Referring to the issue of resumption of nuclear talks with Group 5+1, the President said Iran would not accept to be addressed with force or threat by others at any talks in order to impose their conditions.
'We have repeatedly announced that we are in favor of holding talks in an equal and fair atmosphere,' stressed the President.
Asked why he refused to say 'Israel' instead of saying the 'Zionist regime,' President Ahmadinejad said, 'We do not recognize such a name. The Zionist regime is a racist regime that besides killing the defenseless people of Palestine, threatens other countries as well.'
Touching upon the double standard policy of the US towards the nuclear activities of other countries, the President said Iran had evidences that the US government had equipped the Zionist regime with atomic bomb.
'Now the question is that does the US let the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency check the Zionist regime's nuclear installations?,' asked the President.
He stressed that the US has adopted a political approach for dealing with Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
As for the alleged death sentence by stoning of a woman in Iran, the President said she was accused of conspiring to kill her husband and that her case is still being examined and the final verdict was not announced for her yet.
He referred to a similar case in the US where Teresa Lewis was sentenced to death by lethal injection for alleged conspiracy with two men to carry out the 2002 murder of her husband.
'She is to be executed within three days while her physician believes that she was suffering from mental disorder at the time of her husband's murder but no body pays any attention to this issue,' said the President.
'I am against any kind of killing but anyone who violates the law should be punished,' said the President when insistingly asked about his views on the death penalty by Charlie Rose.
President Ahmadinejad wondered why US officials was not sensitive and did not show any reaction to several cases of beheading by sword convictions in certain countries.
At the end of the interview President Ahmadinejad gave a list of 53 US women waiting for execution in American prisoners to Rose telling him to publish the list so that it might lead to a campaign in the US to save their lives./end
