Iran President, Greek PM review issues of mutual interest

New York, Sept 21, IRNA – The Greek premier met and conferred with President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Monday evening on issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly during which President Ahmadinejad expressed his satisfaction with the significant growth in Tehran-Athens relations.

Stressing the need for establishment of peace in the Middle East region, Ahmadinejad said insecurity would damage regional and global peace and development.

The Iranian nation is interested in sustainable peace and security worldwide, the President said.

Ahmadinejad said the issue of Palestine is the most important world issue that has become so complicated, expressing the hope that the problem be resolved by the Palestinian nation.

For his part, the Greek prime minister lauded the important and leading role the Islamic Republic of Iran plays in the international and regional arenas.

Athens believes in the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, he said adding that dialogue is the only possible way to resolve Iran's nuclear dispute./end
