Salehi: IAEA should not focus on minor issues

Vienna, Sept 21, IRNA – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi says many highly important issues are on agenda of the IAEA General Conference.
'Looking at the agenda, we will find out that it contains many and highly important issues,' said Salehi in an interview with IRNA after leaving the 54th IAEA General Conference session in Vienna on Monday.
Salehi said much emphasis has been put on the nuclear free Middle East and based on recent UN NPT Review resolution, the Zionist regime should join the treaty. 'Such a highly important issue is not on the meeting's agenda,' he added.
'Other subjects, which we thought were important and announced them, are critical of the written method of the Agency's reports. Unfortunately it seems that they are getting a little bit away from their usual method.'
The method of reporting has changed compared to the past, especially during the era of (former IAEA chief Mohammed) Mr. ElBaradei, though no new point in Iran's nuclear activities is observed,' he added.
He said the main point with regards to the IAEA is that it wants to make sure that all members' activities are peaceful.
He hoped that the IAEA will stop focusing on minor issues and think on the main point, that is to make sure of non-diversion of the member states from peaceful course.
On the three countries which have not yet responded to Iran's fuel swap proposal, he said, 'I think the three countries should no more waste time because we have announced readiness for holding the session as soon as possible.'
'We hope the three states will voice their readiness without killing time because we are also ready to enter into talks on fuel swap deal based on Tehran Declaration,' he said./end
